Canada and Iceland sign youth mobility arrangement

Some great news for younger generations!

Winnipeg, Manitoba—August 4, 2023—The Government of Canada is committed to providing opportunities for Canadian youngsters to gain international experience and perspectives, which are especially crucial in today's global economy. Canadian youngsters will soon have easier access to a new job and travel destination.

Today, the Honourable slaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Iceland, and Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship of Canada, announced the signing of a new Youth Mobility Arrangement between Canada and Iceland. Under this agreement, Canadian and Icelandic adolescents aged 18 to 30 can work and travel in each other's countries for up to 12 months through International Experience Canada or the Icelandic equivalent, with the option of continuing the experience for another 12 months.

Once all prerequisites are completed, the governments of Canada and Iceland plan to adopt the new agreement in 2024. When it comes to applying for international travel and career opportunities, Canadian teenagers will have more alternatives than ever before.
The agreement promotes Canada-Iceland ties based on people-to-people connections and shared values, while also allowing Canadian and Icelandic youth to discover new cultures, gain life skills, and boost their future career opportunities. By investing in their youth, the two countries are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more linked global community.
